MEF and VS2008 Extensions

Jan 26, 2009 at 8:17 PM
I am in the process of writing a fairly complex extension for VS2008, using the existing Managed Package Framework wherever possible. I saw in a recent video that VS2010 will use MEF for extensibility. What is the relation between the MPF and MEF, and is MEF a viable for choice for extensions to VS2008?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere - a search of the discussion threads did not turn anything up.

Unfortunately, no. MEF is a new technology for the yet to be released products .NET 4.0/Visual Studio 2010. VS 2008 does not use the Managed Extensiblity Framework.

If you are interested in plans for MEF + Visual Studio Extensibility for 2010, feel free to ask away over on the VSX forum for the details.
